Swiss system tournament

Swiss system: nobody goes home after the first match

For padel and tennis. Everyone plays the same rounds, and each round you face someone on your points. You get the first round paired and the sheet to fill in. Free, no sign-up.

How many players are you

From 6 to 64 players. If you play in fixed pairs, count pairs instead of people.

When to use it

A lot of people and a single afternoon

With 16 players, four rounds and you have a winner.

More

This is the format for when there are too many of you to play everyone and too many to run a bracket without half the club going home early. With 16 players, four rounds leave a single unbeaten player; everyone against everyone would be fifteen.

And you can tell by who is still on court two hours in: nobody is knocked out here, so whoever lost the first match plays the second against someone else who lost, and spends the afternoon playing close matches.

How it compares

Not a bracket and not a league

Nobody is knocked out, but you do not play everyone either.

More

In a bracket, losing sends you home: half the field plays one match and then watches. In a round robin everyone plays everyone, which with 16 people is 120 matches and does not fit in an afternoon.

The Swiss system sits in between: everyone plays the same amount, nobody is knocked out and you never get the same opponent twice. What you give up is a fixed schedule, because the pairings come out of the standings.

What this page cannot give you

The whole tournament cannot be printed

Who you play in round 2 depends on who wins round 1.

More

A Swiss system does not exist until it is played. Any page that shows you all four rounds written out in advance is showing you a piece of paper you throw away after the first one, because pairing the second needs to know who won.

What you do get: the first round paired, the blank sheet for the rest and the table to add up. What no piece of paper gives you is the next round while fifteen people stand around waiting for you to finish adding.

Or have the next round come out on its own

Run it on Peldia and, as soon as the last result is in, the next round shows up already paired on points, with nobody repeating an opponent, and every player keeps their record.

Creating your own needs an account, and those screens are in English too.
